Singer Dionne Warwick has filed a $15-million damage suit against Globe International Inc., claiming that its Jan. 14 issue libeled her in a story saying she is suffering from a “tragic disease that is threatening to destroy her singing career.” According to the Los Angeles Superior Court suit, the disputed story said the disease, which Warwick says she does not have, is “threatening to destroy the bones in her beautiful face” and has put her career “on hold.” Warwick alleges that she has suffered loss of reputation and credibility as a result of the tabloid’s story in that concert promoters, TV and movie producers and the public in general are disinclined to engage her services “because they feel she will be unable to perform to the high standards which have been the mark of (her) career and artistry.” She also states in the suit that the story attributes quotes to interviews with friends that never took place.
