Trojan Women, at Nearly Full Strength, Play Host to Stanford Today at Sports Arena

The USC women’s basketball team, almost healthy and nearly whole, will play host to Stanford tonight in a Pac West basketball game at the Sports Arena.

The Trojans (22-3 overall, 6-0 in the conference) have only a few nagging injuries and remaining sniffles to report after more than a month of physical problems.

Scoring leader Cheryl Miller will return for her third game since suffering a mild concussion in the Trojans’ win over UCLA Feb. 1. The flu bug, which had run through the USC team, appears to have left. Only Miller, who has a cold, is still dragging a little.

The Cardinal (11-11, 0-4) has some pains of its own. Evon Asforis, a 6-2 forward, has a sprained knee and is listed as a questionable starter. The loss of Asforis leaves 6-5 center Jill Yanke to provide the only height for Stanford. Yanke is averaging 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Miller, who has contributed so much to USC’s program in four seasons, will give the Trojans the shirt off her back tonight. Miller’s No. 31 will be retired in a ceremony at halftime of USC’s men’s game, which will start at 8 p.m. The women’s game will begin at 5:45.
