L.A. Community College Layoffs

Share

There are 142 instructors being laid off at the community colleges.

At Los Angeles City College there are three departments being cut out of the school. One of the departments is occupational therapy, which is the one I’m in.

Because OT is being closed, I will not be able to graduate. I only need two more semesters to complete the program and fill in one of the many jobs there are out there for therapists. LACC is the only school in California that offers an A.A. degree to be a certified occupational therapy assistant.

It’s not right to close down a program in a school. What will we (students) do? There are more than enough people on welfare and on the streets. I want to better myself and pursue what my birth-given rights--life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. How can I live without a career, where is my liberty and how can I pursue happiness if I see none?
