Glasgow Train Stations

Re Stan Delaplane’s article Feb. 9 in which he refers to his arrival in Glasgow as “one of Britain’s most dismal train stations.” There are two railway stations in Glasgow. The one serving Edinburgh-Glasgow with 40-minute service is Queens, not unlike the old Pacific Electric station in Los Angeles.

The main station is Central, which is far from being dismal, a constant hub of activity, brilliantly lighted, express trains to London and anywhere else in Britain. It also has under its roof the Central Hotel. The joy of being able to do your own thing when you depart the train, a few steps to the taxicabs, all under its roof, and for me, the porters from Central Hotel there to carry your luggage--all in the station.

Glasgow has many tourist attractions. The city hall has some of the most beautiful artwork anywhere. The cathedral and university are world-famous and the beautiful lochs and hills are close at hand.

I’ve had it with Edinburgh. Give me Glasgow.
