S. Dakota Gov. Janklow to Enter Senate Primary

FLANDREAU, S.D. — Gov. William J. Janklow announced Saturday that he will seek the U.S. Senate seat held by longtime GOP ally Sen. James Abdnor. Janklow said he is challenging Abdnor in the primary because the senator and his likely Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Thomas A. Daschle, have been unable to get a fair deal for South Dakota, which faces economic and farm problems.
