Strike Snarls Traffic in Major Italian Cities
From Reuters
ROME —
Traffic in and around major Italian cities was thrown into chaos Monday by a 24-hour strike by transport workers that halted most urban and suburban buses, subways and trains.
The strike, which began at midnight, was called by unions to protest what they said was the government’s lack of willingness to make progress in negotiations for a new contract.
Traffic was at a crawl during rush hour in many major cities as millions of Italians who normally take public transport used their cars instead.
