A total of $1.1 million in damages was awarded Wednesday by a Los Angeles Superior Court jury to a 39-year-old woman who suffered ankle and knee injuries when the car in which she was a passenger slammed into a parked fire truck.

Jurors did not hold the County of Los Angeles or the County Fire Department liable in the 1980 accident, but assessed $15,000 of the award against General Electric Supply Co., owner of the car and employer of the driver.

The balance of the award announced in the courtroom of Judge Raymond Cardenas is against John Arthur White, 41, driver of the car in which Ramona Harris, a Los Angeles credit union loan processor, was a passenger. Harris faces further surgery for fractures sustained in the accident on Rosecrans Boulevard.
