Consumers were warned by the Sacramento County district attorney’s office to stop using water bed heaters manufactured by two Northern California companies because of the danger of electrocution. Dist. Atty. John Daugherty said the heaters were found to be defective in tests made by the Department of Consumer Affairs’ Bureau of Home Furnishings. He said the heaters manufactured by Tech-Mate of Sacramento and Reliance Technology of Fremont were in “serious violation” of state safety requirements. Daugherty said he has filed lawsuits seeking to halt the sale and advertising of the water bed heaters. He said the Bureau of Home Furnishings is recommending that consumers return the water bed heaters to retailers.
