Seymour New Southland Mortgage Bankers Leader

Sylvia Seymour is believed to be the first woman ever elected to head a major regional association of mortgage bankers.

She was installed as the first woman president of the Southern California Mortgage Bankers Assn., which calls itself the largest regional industry group in the nation. A vice president of the First Interstate Bank of California and manager of the bank’s mortgage lines of credit, Seymour succeeds William L. Sullivan, vice president of Lowell, Smith & Evers Inc., as president of the Southland mortgage bankers group.

Other officers include Robert H. Craven, vice president of Dwyer-Curlett & Co. of Los Angeles, vice president; Hal D. Richmond, vice president, C. A. Larson Investment Co., secretary; Bertram E. Thurnher, vice president, Security Pacific National Bank, treasurer, and Don S. Dollries, vice president, Mitsui Manufacturers Bank, assistant treasurer.

Among the new directors are Michael N. Bilyk, Safeco Title Insurance Co.; John B. Bussing, president, Charter Oaks Mortgage Corp.; Sy Ellis, chairman of the board, BBH Mortgage Co.; Tina K. Kelly, vice president, Beneficial Standard Mortgage Co.; Carol Smith, assistant vice president, Beverly Hills Securities Co.; Jordan L. Uttal, president, S&L; Mortgage Services Inc., and William L. Sullivan.
