Women’s Basketball Roundup : USC Scores Record 121-61 Win

Cheryl Miller scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in 26 minutes Saturday night to lead USC to a record-breaking 121-61 victory over Southern Methodist in the semfinals of the Northern Lights tournament for women’s college basketball teams at Anchorage, Alaska.

Cherie Nelson had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Paula Pyers added 18 points and 7 steals for USC, which meets Northeast Louisiana tonight in the championship game. Northeast Louisiana defeated Western Kentucky, 88-84.

USC’s total broke the school record set last December in a 118-68 victory over Missouri.

UCLA 62, Cal State Fullerton 57--Jaime Brown scored 22 points, and the Bruins rallied in the final minutes for the victory at Fullerton.

Dora Dome’s basket from underneath put UCLA (12-15) ahead to stay, 56-55, with 2:10 left as the Bruins finished the game with an 8-3 run. Robin Holmes scored 14 points for Fullerton (11-17).
