Santa Fe Springs : Cable TV Firm Gets Relief

An ordinance allowing a delay in construction of a special cable TV system was introduced by the City Council last week.

The ordinance, which requires a second reading before final approval, would amend a cable franchise agreement with Rogers Cablesystems of California Inc., which is based in Garden Grove.

The council approved the extension of the terms after the company asked for relief because of its “poor financial condition,” a company spokeswoman said.

“We are losing money, to put it bluntly,” spokeswoman Linda Moulton said.

She said the cable system, described as an interactive and institutional network that can be connected to businesses, is not in demand now and is expensive to install. The network would provide services such as security-alarm monitoring, home banking and home shopping.
