A 19-year-old Hollywood man has been sentenced to 27 years in state prison in connection with the Aug. 14 shooting death of a clerk at a Van Nuys 7-Eleven store.

Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Alan B. Haber imposed the sentence Tuesday on Phouvong Inthavong, who pleaded guilty Jan. 30 to the murder and attempted robbery of clerk Vijay Shankar Roy. Inthavong also pleaded guilty to a robbery the next evening of a couple at a Panorama City apartment building.

In exchange for Inthavong’s guilty pleas and his agreement to testify against his alleged accomplice, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty or a sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole.

Inthavong’s co-defendant, Aries Yap, 20, of Sun Valley, has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is awaiting trial.

Inthavong testified during a preliminary hearing that Yap drove the getaway car during both robberies.
