Explosion May Have Been Tied to PCP

An explosion and fire at a Pacoima residence early Wednesday may have been caused by a makeshift PCP laboratory, Los Angeles police said.

Narcotics detectives were called to the scene because PCP-related paraphernalia was found in the house, Sgt. Ken Dionne said.

There were no arrests and no one was injured in the blast, which occurred at 1:30 a.m. in the 13000 block of Desmond Street.

The Police Department’s Scientific Investigation Division is conducting tests on parts of two cans found in the home to determine if they contained ether, an ingredient used to make phencyclidine, an illegal hallucinogen also known as angel dust. The tests are expected to be completed later today.

Police said damage to the house was minor.
