A Samoan Center that recently opened offers several social and cultural services for Samoans who are county residents.
The center, paid for by donations from members of the United Samoan Organization, began operating in February and remains open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, said president Manuseni Tufele.
Included in its services are tutoring, with an emphasis on beginning English classes; supervised study sessions, and employment and housing assistance referrals.
Tufele said unofficial estimates indicate that there are about 10,000 Samoans living in Orange County. Specific numbers weren’t available from county officials, who said that Samoans are included in the larger census category of “Asians and Pacific Islanders.”
For information on the center, at 1225 West 17th St., call (714) 543-9682.
