‘Pressure on Nicaragua’
This Administration’s request for $100 million to aid the Nicaraguan contras reminds me of someone blowing his paycheck on a long shot at the race track while his family is waiting without adequate food and clothing.
We taxpayers have been supporting President Reagan’s long-shot gamble to topple the Sandinista government for five years while we have an increasing number of homeless Americans living all around us.
Let’s take care of our family first and quit using Nicaragua as a pawn in the superpower arms race. The best way to stop a Soviet arms buildup in Nicaragua is to take the contra pressure off their borders so the Nicaragua government can begin to take care of its domestic needs also.
