East County Extension of Trolley Clears Hurdle

Share

Rep. Bill Lowery said Tuesday that the San Diego Trolley’s East County extension appears to have cleared the final hurdle to receive $20.6 million that has been appropriated by Congress for the project.

Although Congress has allocated the trolley funds for the last three years, none has been spent because the federal Urban Mass Transportation Administration has refused to approve the environmental impact statement for the expansion, said Lowery (R-San Diego).

Lowery said a UMTA official assured him that the board will approve the trolley’s environmental impact statement if the Metropolitan Transit Development Board promises not to request additional federal funds for the project.
