Police moved into the Main Reading Room of the Library of Congress and arrested at least 18 demonstrators protesting for a third day against the earlier closing hours at the 186-year-old institution. About 50 protesters, angry at the library’s new 5:30 p.m. closing time, instead of the old 9:30 p.m. closing time, forced by Gramm-Rudman budget cuts, sat quietly at their desks and listened to Assistant Librarian of Congress Donald Curran ask them to leave.
