Anteaters Rally With 3 in Sixth to Gain a 7-7 Tie With Lobos
UC Irvine scored three runs in the sixth inning Thursday to gain a 7-7 tie with New Mexico in a nonconference baseball game called after nine innings because of rain in Anteater Stadium.
In the sixth, Chris Gallego and Ed Clark walked with none out. After advancing on a ground out, Gallego and Clark scored on Tom Baine’s triple. Baine scored the tying run on Gene Roumimper’s sacrifice fly.
Baine led the Anteaters with three RBIs and two hits, and Roumimper added two hits. Glen Russell led New Mexico with two hits.
Junior right-hander Doug Linton pitched the final four innings for Irvine, allowing one run and no hits while striking out six.
Irvine plays host to United States International University today at 2:30.
