The son of Assemblywoman Sunny Mojonnier and his friend pleaded guilty Friday to false imprisonment of a 15-year-old acquaintance stemming from a bizarre abduction.

Craig Mojonnier, 22, and Gary Anthony Chavez, 32, will be sentenced April 11 and could receive up to three years in state prison.

But San Diego Superior Court Judge Richard Huffman promised to consider alternatives to jail.

Mojonnier wrote on a court document that he “falsely imprisoned Eric Huff for 3 minutes” on June 22 following a ruse to entice him away from his home at Cardiff-by-the-Sea.

Huff, who was not harmed during his five days away from home, was allegedly taken because of a $100,000 debt his brother owed to Chavez. The money was not paid, and Huff returned home with an acquaintance.

Huff testified in Vista Municipal Court that he stayed in various hotels in San Clemente and Encinitas, and that his dinners and clothes were purchased by Chavez.

The teen-ager maintained he was held against his will by Chavez after Mojonnier lured him into Chavez’s car by telling him his sister had been injured. No kidnaping charges were ever filed, although false imprisonment is a felony.

Mojonnier and Chavez remain free on bonds previously set at $15,000 and $5,000, respectively.
