The ads for “Highlander” allege that “He is immortal.”

But 20th Century Fox has been acting as if it’s anything but. The pic wasn’t previewed for critics prior to its March 7 release; in fact, the studio muscled Capitol Records (the label’s group, Queen, contributed to the score) into dis-inviting music writers to a scheduled record-company screening.

“Fox seemed to be very frightened about any press seeing the film before it was released,” said a source close to Capitol. “That’s a pretty funny way of promoting a movie, isn’t it?”

A Fox spokeswoman explained that this isn’t “a critics’ picture.”

Foresight? Critics generally panned the flick and it did a lackluster $2.5 million in its first weekend.
