Bomb Explodes as Car Starts, Hurts Driver in N. Hollywood
A Pacoima man suffered a serious leg injury Saturday morning when a bomb exploded as he started his small sports car outside a North Hollywood apartment complex, Los Angeles police said.
Keith A. Curry, 22, a machinist, suffered a deep gash in his left thigh in the 10:20 a.m. explosion in the parking lot of the 104-unit Summer Breeze apartments, 6754 N. Clybourn Ave., police said. Curry had been visiting his girlfriend there, police said.
Curry was taken to Serra Memorial Hospital and Health Center in Sun Valley. He was later transferred to County-USC Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition.
No one else was injured. The blast caused moderate damage to Curry’s Porsche 914 and slightly damaged two other vehicles.
Police believe an explosive device in the left front portion of Curry’s car exploded shortly after he started the car and began driving it away, Lt. Rob Watters said. Neighbors told police that the car had been parked at the apartment complex for four days, Watters said. He said police have no motive or suspects.
Curry “is telling us that he knows no reason why anyone would do this to him,” Watters said.
