Kissinger and Nixon
After reading Kissinger’s article, I am thankful that he no longer has a voice in government. In view of recent events in the Philippines, Kissinger’s remark that “. . . whatever else may be said about the Marcos regime, it contributed substantially to American security and had been extolled by American Presidents for nearly two decades.” Yeah, same as with Anastasio Somoza in Nicaragua, but with not quite the desired outcome.
On Page 6, Part 1 of the same Sunday edition there was an article regarding anti-Americanism in Spain because of “bitter and deeply rooted resentment against the United States for supporting the late dictator Francisco Franco. . . .”
May one ask, Mr. Kissinger, “Where is the much-extolled security now which the now-departed dictators provided in Nicaragua and Spain?”
