Bomb Explodes on French Train, Injures 10 People

Associated Press

A bomb exploded today aboard an eight-car passenger train bound from Paris to the south of France, injuring 10 people, officials said.

The high-speed train left Paris for Lyon at 3 p.m., the state-run railroad authority reported, and the explosion occurred 12 minutes later, just before the train arrived at Brunoy.

Officials said that most of the injured suffered from smoke inhalation and that three people were hospitalized but were in good condition.

The bomb was placed in the baggage area at the end of the train’s sixth car, the railroad reported.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing. It was not known if it was linked to Sunday’s French elections, in which the main conservative parties won a slim majority over the Socialists in the National Assembly.
