Andrew Strenio Jr. has been sworn in as a member of the Federal Trade Commission, the agency announced.
Strenio, a 33-year-old Democrat, fills one of two vacancies on the five-member consumer protection and antitrust agency.
The nomination of Agriculture Department General Counsel Daniel Oliver to the second FTC vacancy is still before the Senate.
If confirmed, Oliver would replace former FTC Chairman James Miller III, now director of the White House Office of Management and Budget. The FTC is now under the direction of acting Chairman Terry Calvani.
Strenio was appointed by President Reagan to serve out an unexpired term on the commission ending in September, 1989; the vacancy was created by the September, 1985, resignation of former Commissioner George Douglas.
Before his appointment to the FTC, Strenio served during 1984 and 1985 as a member of the Interstate Commerce Commission.
