Craxi Wins Assembly Vote

Prime Minister Bettino Craxi won a vote of confidence in the lower house of Parliament on Thursday to force passage of a key part of a bill on Italian income tax reform. Craxi would have been forced to resign if defeated on the vote. But since confidence votes are not secret, the risk of defections in coalition ranks was reduced to a minimum.
