AND WAIT, THERE’S MORE: Dave Alvin is leaving the Blasters, at least for the remainder of the year, to join X as a replacement for Billy Zoom. You can see the original Blasters lineup (with Alvin as well as former members Gene Taylor and Steve Berlin) one more time May 1 and 2 at the Palace. The Blasters management says the band will continue to perform, with a replacement for Alvin still to be named. . . . Green on Red, which recently signed with PolyGram Records, has a new EP just out called “No Free Lunch.” It features a trio of new tunes, including “Honest Man” and “Time Ain’t Nothin’ ” as well as a cover of Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away.” . . . Let’s hope MCA Records has the luck of the Irish. The label is releasing a host of new albums by Emerald Isle pop faves, including the long-awaited “Rum, Sodomy & the Lash” by the Pogues, “Flowers for All Occasions” by Ruefrex and (coming next month) “Urban Beaches” by Cactus World News. . . . “Legend,” the long-awaited Ridley Scott film starring Tom Cruise, will finally arrive in mid-April after a considerable delay caused in part by the replacement of Jerry Goldsmith’s score. But MCA Records has already released a new Bryan Ferry single called “Is Your Love Strong Enough,” which will be part of Tangerine Dream’s “Legend” sound track, due next week. . . . And attention all you tackheads--our Title of the Week goes to the new George Clinton single, “Do Fries Go With That Shake?”
