Union Carbide Corp. has reached a tentative settlement on billions of dollars in damage claims from a chemical leak in Bhopal, India, in December, 1984, that killed more than 2,000 people, a company spokesman said. He refused to disclose details, but the New York Times reported that the company agreed to pay a settlement of $350 million. The settlement would cover anyone injured in the leak whether or not they sued the company, according to unnamed sources cited by the paper.
