Sierra Madre Vintage Home Tour on Today
The Sierra Madre Community Nursery School, a nonprofit parent participation school founded in 1947, is sponsoring the Vintage Home Tour of Sierra Madre today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tour will include five historical Sierra Madre homes.
The Jameson House, a Craftsman-style residence never before opened to the public, is one of the largest estates in the area and was built in 1908 by the C. H. Baker family. It was sold in 1920 to oilman James William Jameson.
Across the street, the tour includes a California Craftsman bungalow built in 1910 and currently undergoing remodeling. The Russell House was built in 1917 by Alexander Russell whose son, Bruce Russell, was a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist for the Los Angeles Times for 36 years. An antique doll collection will be on display at this house.
The Fletcher House, a Victorian farmhouse, built in 1890 by Dr. H. C. Fletcher and supposedly haunted by a child ghost, will be open for the tour as well as the carriage house of the A. L. Sumans estate, built in 1914, where refreshments will be served in the garden.
Also included on the tour will be 11 additional drive-by historical homes and buildings. Tour tickets are available for $10 per person at 171 W. Orange Grove Blvd., Sierra Madre.
