Track : UCLA’s Thomas Runs 20.49

Freshman Henry Thomas ran the fastest 200-meter dash outdoors this year Saturday to pace UCLA to victory over Iowa, Stanford and Azusa Pacific in a quadrangular track and field meet at UCLA’s Drake Stadium.

Thomas, who won the 200 with a time of 20.49 seconds, also won the 100 meters in 10.39 and anchored the UCLA 400-meter relay team to victory in 39.90.

In a women’s dual meet, the Bruins’ Gail Devers won four individual events to lead UCLA to a 102-33 victory over Stanford. Devers won the long jump with a leap of 20-6 1/2, the triple jump at 40-11 1/2, the 100-meter hurdles in 13.24 and the 200-meter dash in 23.89.

USC improved its dual meet record to 5-0, as Luis Morales won the 100- and 200-meter dash and anchored the 400-meter relay team to victory as the the Trojans defeated San Diego State and New Mexico in a meet at USC’s Cromwell Field.

The USC women defeated San Diego State, 87-48, and New Mexico, 115-19.
