Anaheim : Two Men Are Injured as Roof Collapses

Share

Two men were injured Tuesday when a section of a warehouse roof under construction collapsed, hurtling the workers and about two tons of roofing materials 30 feet to the ground, Anaheim authorities said.

The accident occurred about 10:30 a.m. as a construction crew was loading materials onto the roof of the 100,000-square-foot warehouse and office building under construction in an industrial complex at 313 N. Euclid Way, said Anaheim fire investigator Mike Doty.

Two pallets stacked with about 65 rolls of roofing material crashed through the roof supports, carrying the two workers down, city officials said.

Five men were on the roof at the time, but three did not fall through the 16-by-30-foot hole, said city public information officer Carol Johnson.

One man, identified by a hospital spokeswoman as Adrian Carbajal, 23, of Fullerton, suffered head injuries, two broken arms and two broken wrists and was airlifted to UCI Medical Center, Johnson said. He was in critical condition following surgery Tuesday evening.

The other man, Mario Saldivar, 30, of Anaheim, appeared to have suffered a broken arm and complained of back pain, Johnson said. Saldivar was taken by ambulance to UCI Medical Center, where he was in serious but stable condition after surgery.

The state Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
