The 12-officer Beach Enforcement Team on Tuesday reported 99 arrests and the Harbor Patrol Unit reported six arrests during their first two days of operation, officials said.

Of the 99 people arrested Saturday and Sunday, 75 were on misdemeanor charges such as minors in possession of alcohol or having glass containers on the beach; 24 were for public drunkenness, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, creating a disturbance or possession of narcotics for sale, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

The Harbor Patrol Unit arrested five people on misdemeanor charges: four minors in possession of alcohol, and one person for driving a boat while drunk, Robinson said.

They also wrote two citations for speeding and driving at night without a light, and six citations for less serious offenses such as failing to have a registration for a boat, or not having the proper number of life preservers, Robinson said.

Robinson said a “goodly number” of those arrested and cited were students on spring break.
