Cardinal Jozef Glemp, the Roman Catholic primate of Poland, returned to Warsaw on Tuesday at the end of a six-day visit to Rome in which he reviewed the church-state situation in Poland with Pope John Paul II.

In a brief interview at Warsaw’s Okecie Airport, Glemp said it was “high time” he had a meeting with Polish leader Wojciech Jaruzelski.

Glemp and Gen. Jaruzelski last met on June 18, 1985. This was just eight months after three secret police agents murdered a pro-Solidarity priest, Father Jerzy Popieluszko.

Polish bishops have complained recently that the number of permits for the construction of churches in next five years have been cut by the authorities.

They also charged that Polish schools are being used to spread hostility against the church, although the government has rejected this allegation.

No Obstacles to Visit

Turning to the projected third trip by the Pope to his native Poland in June, 1987, Glemp said, “There are no essential obstacles for the visit.

“There is still time to fix dates and we shall do it at home,” he said in reference to the church-state talks on the subject. The time will come when the Pope will be officially invited.”

Glemp did not reveal any details of his talks with the Pope.
