Mother of Sextuplets Dies; Babies Survive

A 25-year-old German woman who gave birth Monday to three girls and three boys lapsed into shock and died late in the evening, hospital officials announced Tuesday.

All six babies were reported doing well Tuesday in four pediatric intensive care clinics around Munich.

The mother, a 25-year-old hair stylist, whose name was withheld, had spent 15 weeks in the university clinic before giving birth. A hospital spokesman said she had been undergoing hormone treatments and was hospitalized in the 24th week of pregnancy. Cause of death was listed as an apparent lung embolism.
