Trade talks on semiconductors resume today.

The continuing negotiations in Washington will focus on increasing U.S. companies’ share of the Japanese market for computer chips. American companies are dissatisfied with an offer made at the previous negotiating session that would increase to 13% the share that they have of sales in Japan. Their share now is 10%. The U.S. companies are asking for a 30% share by 1989; 15% this year, with additions of 5 percentage points in each of the next three years.
