Education Journal

This letter is written in response to the article (March 13), “Bell Charges ‘Radical Nuts’ Harassed Him.”
Your staff writer dealt a serious disservice to education when she cited “an obscure educational journal” as the source for former Education Secretary Terrel H. Bell’s article on educational policies in the Reagan Administration. Given front-page coverage by The Times, it is not clear whether the terminology was intended to express disdain for an educational journal or simply demonstrate a significant lack of knowledge on the part of the writer.
Published by Phi Delta Kappa, KAPPAN magazine is generally considered the most influential and respected publication in the field of education. With an international circulation, it is widely utilized by individuals and organizations interested in promoting quality education. Bell obviously valued KAPPAN publication and fully recognized its stature among informed readers.
