A San Diego woman Monday was ordered to stand trial for the smothering death of her 22-month-old son. Bonnie Tafoya, 19, will be arraigned on charges of murder, attempted murder and felony child abuse on April 14, San Diego Municipal Court Judge Herbert J. Exarhos ruled.

Tafoya, in custody in lieu of $250,000 bail, is charged with smothering her son, James R. Deems, on Christmas eve. Two psychiatrists have testified that Tafoya is competent to stand trial despite delusions, including the belief that she is the “mother of God because she had killed her son, Jesus Christ.”
