Orange County College Baseball : Peters Leads Orange Coast to 8-7 Win
Rex Peters hit a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday to lift Orange Coast College to an 8-7 win over Saddleback in a South Coast Conference game on the Pirates’ field at Costa Mesa.
Orange Coast (8-0 in conference, 19-4 overall) was trailing, 7-5, entering the eighth but scored three runs to go ahead, the first on Brett Weber’s sacrifice fly and the second and third on Peters’ double to left field.
Peters went 3 for 5 with three RBIs. Longo Garcia went the distance on a nine-hitter and struck out nine to earn the victory.
The Gauchos (3-5 in conference) were led by Guillermo Lipson, who went 2 for 4 with a double and a three-run homer in the sixth inning.
In college baseball action:
Cal Lutheran 2, Christ College of Irvine 1--Greg Miller drove in two runs with a double to left field in the top of the sixth inning for the Kingsmen in a nonconference game at Irvine.
Steve Nelson pitched a complete-game, five-hitter and struck out five to earn the win for Cal Lutheran, and John Shimkus, who went all the way on a six-hitter, took the loss.
