Dade County commissioners gave final approval to a measure that lets Miami landlords give rent breaks to people in any specified age group. The 7-0 vote, with no public protest, was a quiet resolution to a controversy that began last year when a Miami Beach landlord first offered a “yuppie discount,” or a 15% rent discount to people between 25 and 50 in hopes of luring younger tenants. A 57-year-old woman requested a similar discount but was turned down because of her age. She won a $50,000 discrimination complaint that now is under appeal.
