Home games against perennial National Football League powers Miami and Dallas highlight the San Diego Chargers 1986 schedule announced Wednesday.

The Chargers open the season Sept. 7 in San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium against Miami, the defending AFC Eastern Division champion. Dallas, which won the NFC East last season, will be in San Diego Nov. 16.

Also included in the Chargers’ eight-game home schedule are meetings with AFC Western Division rivals Denver (Oct. 12), Kansas City (Nov. 2), the Los Angeles Raiders (Nov. 20, Thursday night), and Seattle (Dec. 14). The Chargers’ Oct. 6 date in Seattle will be the Monday Night game of the week.

San Diego’s toughest part of the 16-week schedule appears to be in weeks four through eight. The Chargers will play four of five games on road, including games at Los Angeles against the Raiders, at Seattle, at Kansas City and at Philadelphia.

Besides the games against Miami and Dallas, San Diego will face only two other teams that qualified for the playoffs last season. Cleveland, the defending AFC Central Division champion, plays host to the Chargers Dec. 21, the final week of the season. The Chargers play the New York Giants at the Meadowlands on Sept. 14.
