Carlsbad police are investigating the weekend theft of an unspecified amount of sophisticated aeronautical equipment from an aircraft hangar at Palomar Airport.

Among the items stolen, police said, were radios, navigational gear and radar equipment. The value of the stolen material was unknown, but police said it was expected to be “substantial.”

Also taken was a vehicle that was parked inside the hangar, police said.

The burglars entered the hangar through a movable door between 10 p.m. Friday and 5:30 a.m. Saturday, police said. The theft was discovered by workers Saturday morning.

Police said the hangar involved was owned by Cinema Air, which in turn is owned by Friedkin Investments, a Texas firm. The hanger housed 14 aircraft owned by 11 separate proprietors, including a number of commercial firms, police said.
