Memphis State University officials have withheld payment of a bonus to basketball Coach Dana Kirk because of a federal grand jury investigation involving Kirk’s tax liabilities.
“Since the grand jury publicity, a decision was made to postpone the payment until the grand jury is completed,” said Charles Holmes, MSU director of community relations.
Holmes said the bonus, amounting to 25% of Kirk’s $62,500 annual salary, was to reward the coach to taking the Tiger basketball team to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament last year.
