Kathleen Jimno was named the city manager of Del Mar on Monday night after a closed session by the City Council. Jimno, who has 13 years of administrative experience and has worked for various Southern California cities, is expected to start at her new post within 30 days.

She replaces Robert Nelson, who resigned March 1. Jimno, who will be paid $51,450, is currently a department head in Poway’s Administrative Services Division, where she has worked for two years. Her husband, Vincent Jimno, is Carlsbad Police chief. The couple have two children.

Before coming to Poway, Jimno worked as assistant city manager in Vista. She also served as the personnel director for Laguna Beach and worked as personnel analyst for the city of Santa Barbara.

Poway City Manager Jim Bowersox praised Jimno’s administrative experience and said, “Del Mar is extremely fortunate to hire a person of her caliber.” Bowersox said that Jimno has worked in Poway for two years and called her “one of the most competent administrators I’ve seen in city government.”

Unlike her predecessor, Jimno is not expected to live in Del Mar. Nelson was hired on the condition that he reside in Del Mar, and the City Council authorized a loan for him so he could buy a home in town. The loan stirred considerable controversy earlier this year when the City Council demanded that Nelson repay the loan upon resigning.
