Bomb Threat Brings N.Y.-to-Atlanta Jet Down for Search
An Eastern Airlines 727 bound from New York to Atlanta with about 100 people aboard made an emergency landing in Philadelphia today after an Egyptian passenger said he had a bomb in his attache case, authorities said.
No bomb was found and police said they did not know whether the statement to a stewardess by Amar Sherin Osman, 24, identified by his student visa as an Egyptian national, was intended as a joke.
The FBI in New York said that the attache case was removed from the plane but that it did not contain a bomb. The plane was searched for explosives but none were found.
No one was injured. After the incident, passengers reboarded the jet and it left for Atlanta.
