Sophomore forward Alan Pollard, unhappy with his role on the Brigham Young basketball team, has decided to transfer. A source at BYU told the Associated Press that Pollard intends to transfer to USC. The Trojans’ new coach, George Raveling, was unavailable for comment.

The 6-foot 9-inch Pollard averaged 7.2 points and 6.4 rebounds a game during his two years at the Western Athletic Conference school. He was the team’s leading shot-blocker last season with 32.

But after beginning the season as a starter, Pollard was relegated to a backup role behind junior transfer Brent Stephenson.

Pollard red-shirted his first year at BYU, then served a Mormon Church mission to Sweden before rejoining the club for the 1984-85 season. This past season, he shot 42% from the field and averaged 6.6 points and 6.3 rebounds a game.
