A20-year-old Sepulveda man was sentenced Friday to 18 years in prison on 41 felony counts stemming from a string of armed robberies last year in the San Fernando Valley.

Van Nuys Superior Court Judge James A. Albracht imposed the sentence on Jerold P. Reyes, who pleaded guilty in January to charges involving six robberies of liquor stores and convenience markets in Canoga Park, Woodland Hills and Reseda, said Michelle R. Rosenblatt, deputy district attorney. Handguns, shotguns and knives were used as weapons in the crimes, which occurred between February and July last year.

Reyes could have been sentenced to more than 31 years in state prison. Albracht said he imposed the lesser sentence because of Reyes’ age and lack of a criminal record.

Reyes pleaded guilty to 18 counts of robbery, 14 of assault with a deadly weapon, eight of false imprisonment and one of car theft. More than 20 people were robbed during the crime spree, and some were injured, although not seriously, Rosenblatt said.
