Fumbles and Penalties Slow Down USC’s Offense

Tailback Ryan Knight and fullback Leroy Holt each scored a touchdown Friday, and Don Shafer kicked field goals of 48 and 40 yards in a 75-play scrimmage at USC.

The offense fumbled away the ball four times and was called for seven penalties.

Knight, who scored on a 10-yard run, had runs of 26 and 23 yards called back. He rushed for 27 yards in 11 carries. Holt, a freshman, gained 39 yards in 7 carries and scored on an eight-yard run.
