Bandits Flee Simi Store With Cash and Register

Share

Two men who robbed a convenience store early Saturday morning stole the entire cash register because the store clerk was too flustered to open it, the Simi Valley Police Department reported.

The robbers, one armed with a revolver, entered a Stop N’ Go market in the 1600 block of Royal Avenue about 1:15 a.m. and demanded the night’s receipts, Lt. Bob Klamser said.

When the clerk became too nervous to open the register, the armed robber fired a shot, which missed the clerk, and again ordered him to open the register, Klamser said. When the clerk still could not open it, the other robber picked up the 30-pound register and stumbled out the door. The robber with the gun fired another shot as he left, but again missed the clerk.

The robbers, both described only as being in their 20s, were last seen escaping on foot in the direction of a nearby park, Klamser said.

The register contained less than $100, but the register itself was valued at about $3,000, Klamser said.
