Beirut Schools on 1-Day Strike

BEIRUT —
Universities, colleges and other schools across Beirut shut their doors today for a one-day, government-sanctioned strike to protest a rash of kidnapings of Western school employees. Previously unknown groups in the last three weeks have kidnaped two British instructors at the American University of Beirut, an Irish teacher and a French schoolteacher who escaped his kidnapers last week.
