Daniel Webster Gage Jr., a longtime Los Angeles attorney and descendant of a pioneer California family, died Monday of complications of cancer.
He was 71 and died in an Arcadia hospital.
Gage was the nephew of Henry T. Gage, governor of California from 1899 to 1903 and son of Daniel Sr. and Keziah Hunter, whose family owned the Hunter Ranch on what is now Elysian Park and Dodger Stadium in Chavez Ravine.
The Gage family came to California from New York and Michigan and traced their ancestors to Thomas Gage, who settled in Massachusetts in 1625.
In Los Angeles they lived in what is now Bell, where Gage Avenue is named for them.
Gage, a graduate of Occidental College and Loyola Law School, is survived by his wife, Celeste, a son, a daughter and a brother.
