Capt. Lee Baca of the Norwalk sheriff’s station has been commended by the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District for more than four years of service to the community.

Baca, a 21-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, was promoted to commander and placed in charge of three Los Angeles jails, including Sybil Brand Institute for Women. He served as captain at Norwalk for 4 1/2 years. Capt. Robert Pash has taken command of the Norwalk station. Pash transferred from the Pico Rivera sheriff’s station, where he served for 3 1/2 years, to Norwalk, which is almost three times the size. The Norwalk station serves Santa Fe Springs, Norwalk, La Mirada and unincorporated areas of Whittier.

Gedney Gallagher and Tom and Sylvia Takata were given the 1986 Citizen of the Year Awards by the Santa Fe Springs Chamber of Commerce/Industrial League last week. The annual awards are given each to one person from business community and one from the community at large for consistent work to better the city.
